Privacy policy
Last updated: 28 July 2026
ProofFlick sends your text and audio directly from your PC to the AI provider you chose, using your own key. It never passes through our servers, because we have none in that path. Your history stays on your device, encrypted. The app has no telemetry, and this website has no cookies, analytics or trackers. The only personal data we ever hold is what Lemon Squeezy passes us when you buy a licence, and anything you choose to email us.
Who we are
ProofFlick is made by Capital Films Limited, a company registered in England and Wales (company number 07426603) at 27 Exbury Road, London SE6 4NB. For anything in this policy, Capital Films Limited is the data controller.
What the app does with your writing
ProofFlick reads text only when you explicitly trigger it with a shortcut. It is never a background collector, keylogger or clipboard logger.
- Your text and audio go directly to your provider. When you proofread or dictate, the content travels over an encrypted connection from your PC to the AI provider you connected (OpenAI, Anthropic Claude, xAI Grok, OpenRouter or Groq, with speech through Deepgram or Groq), under your own account and their terms. There are no ProofFlick servers in that path.
- Nothing is retained by us. Selected text is processed transiently, solely to produce the correction, and is never kept by ProofFlick after the request. We cannot read, store or leak your writing, because we never receive it.
- Your history lives on your device. If you keep local history on (it is optional), proofreads and dictations are stored on your machine, encrypted. You can delete individual entries, reset all local data, or turn history off in Settings. It is never synced or uploaded.
- Your API keys stay home. Keys are encrypted with Windows DPAPI under your user account and never leave your device.
- No telemetry. The app does not report usage, content or diagnostics to us. Diagnostic logs are written locally, contain only non-content metadata with key patterns redacted, and stay on your device unless you choose to send them to us when asking for help.
One thing to be clear about: once your text reaches the provider you chose, their privacy terms apply, not ours. You pick the provider, so you pick whose terms you trust. That is the point of bring-your-own-key.
What this website collects
Nothing it does not need. This site is static: it sets no cookies, runs no analytics and loads everything, including fonts, from its own domain. We do not track visitors, and we would not know who you are if you visited every day.
- Downloads are served from GitHub Releases, so GitHub’s privacy statement applies to the download itself.
- Purchases are handled by Lemon Squeezy as merchant of record. They process your payment details; we never see your card number.
What we actually hold about you
Two things, at most:
- Purchase records. When you buy a licence, Lemon Squeezy passes us your name, email address and licence details so we can deliver the product and help you if something goes wrong. We keep these for as long as your licence is active, and as required for tax and accounting.
- Emails you send us. If you contact support, we hold your message so we can reply. Attach diagnostic logs only if you are happy for us to read them; they contain metadata, not your writing.
We do not sell, rent or share this information with anyone, except as required by law.
Your rights
Under UK GDPR you can ask us for a copy of the personal data we hold about you, ask us to correct it or delete it, and object to our processing of it. Given how little we hold, this is usually a quick job. You also have the right to complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office (ico.org.uk) if you think we have mishandled your data.
Contact
Email support@proofflick.com and a human (Steve) will reply. There is more practical help on the support page.
Changes
If this policy changes, the new version will appear here with an updated date. We will not weaken the architecture described above; it is the reason the product exists.
